It’s time to don your Christmas jumpers and explore the exciting sensory opportunities the festive season offers. Christmas is full of new smells, tastes, sights and sounds for you and your little ones to explore. Messy play experts, Mess Around, guide us through their Messy Christmas (including all the messy trimmings), so you can have a jolly messy time this December!

I’m dreaming of a White Christmas - Polar Express

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Why not create some messy ‘snow’ with a dusting of a kitchen cupboard staple- simple plain flour! To create an effective snow scene, use a sieve to create a light dusting. We added our train set to build the perfect polar express Christmas tray! You could add some brushes or scoops so your little one can really get to practise their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Love them, hate them….roll them- Brussel Sprout Rolling

Whether you love them or hate them, Christmas wouldn’t be complete with our brussel sprouts. They are the perfect size for little hands to explore. We use our channel set to roll our Brussels down. It’s a firm favourite at our messy play events. The little ones spend ages rolling, collecting and re-rolling down the channel- a great way to keep little hands and minds busy.

Turkey and all the trimmings – Christmas Stuffing

The Christmas stuffing is the one thing that always get’s forgotten about during our Christmas dinner. You either forget to cook it or find it in the back of the oven!! We love to use it at our messy play events. It smells yummy, is a fun, crumbly texture for little fingers and of course, its taste safe.

What is for dessert? Top soil pudding!

No matter how much Christmas turkey or roast potatoes you devour- there is always room for dessert.

Although the Mess Around Christmas pudding isn’t a delicious as it may appear. We use top-soil to create our pud. Simply squash it into a bowl with some water so it sticks together, turn it out and use flour, cornflour or even shaving form to add a layer of fake icing.

Don’t forget the reindeer

Santa has mince pie waiting- but what about the reindeer? Our ‘reindeer food’ is made from oats and we even add a sprinkle of glitter to create that Christmas magic. Oats are great for pouring, scooping and building so keep little ones busy for ages.
