3 Fun Weaning Breakfast Ideas

By the time your baby reaches 6 months old, they’re usually sleeping through the night, or at least waking up much less throughout the night. As a result, this typically means that they won’t have eaten for around 12 hours, so are usually very hungry when they wake up! When you start BLW with your baby, you want to start with milk first thing in the morning, before combining solids and milk to give them a better range of nutrients to support their growing needs, meaning that it’s time to start looking for fun weaning breakfast ideas!

Eating breakfast has so many different benefits and eating breakfast every day has been linked to good health outcomes as your little one grows. Children who eat breakfast every day have increased concentration and better memory, which is particularly important for school-age children. It has also been linked to reducing the chance of children becoming overweight, too.

Your little one will likely still be relatively young when you start introducing them to solid breakfasts, so it’s important to give them soft foods that they’ll be able to eat more comfortably and to remember that they likely won’t eat everything you give them as they’re still getting used to the whole BLW concept. With that in mind, let’s take a look at 3 fun weaning breakfast ideas that will be perfect for your little one.

Fun Weaning Breakfast Ideas: How To Make

Bear PancakesCover & Catch

These pancakes are a super simple and fun weaning breakfast idea for your little one to enjoy. This mixture makes quite a few pancakes, but they’re ideal for freezing in batches and then popping into the toaster for a quick and easy breakfast.

To make, you will need 195g plain flour, 2 tbsp caster sugar, 1 tbsp baking powder, 295ml milk and 1 large egg. First, pop a non-stick frying pan on medium-low heat and whisk together the egg and milk. Then, combine the dry ingredients and make a well in the middle. Pour in the milk and egg mixture and mix together. Don’t worry if there are some lumps in the batter, as this will make the pancakes fluffier!

For the bear face, you will want to make one larger pancake, then two smaller pancakes for the ears. Put a spoonful of batter into the pan, followed by 2 smaller spoonfuls and flip only once bubbles have started to form on top. To make the bear face, use 2 blueberries for the eyes and a slice of banana for the nose, with additional blueberries to make the mouth. Serve with some yoghurt or other fruits such as raspberries and strawberries.

Baby Overnight Oats

This is a weaning breakfast idea that gets your little one used to different tastes and textures. They’re quick and easy to make and can be prepared the night before. You can also introduce different flavours with fruits and spices such as cinnamon. To make, you will need 60g of yoghurt, a sprinkle of cinnamon, 1 tbsp of milk and 1 tbsp of oats. To make them fun and attractive for your little one, you can layer a spoonful of the oat mixture, with a layer of colourful berries and fruit into a tall, plastic container. Once you have finished, simply store in the fridge overnight for breakfast the next day.
